New Delhi: The government has made a significant announcement for the elderly in Uttar Pradesh. People over the age of 60 will no longer need to apply for old-age pensions. This means the government will automatically transfer the pension amount to their accounts. Pension benefits will be available in the state without filling out a form. This proposal was approved at a cabinet meeting in Lucknow on Friday.

According to a report, the Uttar Pradesh government is providing pension benefits to approximately 6.8 million elderly people. During the meeting, instructions were given that under the “Family One Identity” scheme, the government will retain data on every family over 60 years of age. Old-age pensions will be disbursed based on this data. Other decisions were also made for the state.

How will beneficiaries be identified?

After the cabinet meeting, Social Welfare Minister (Independent Charge) Asim Arun provided significant information. He stated that under the “One Family, One Identity” system, beneficiaries will be automatically identified through the family identity card. This will allow pensions to be approved after the beneficiary’s consent.

Amounts will be transferred to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Asim Arun stated that this system will digitally track individuals approaching 60 years of age. It will also initiate the consent process through SMS, WhatsApp, or phone calls. Where digital consent is not obtained, officials or local assistants will be able to contact beneficiaries in person.

Pension approval will be completed within 15 days.

Asim Arun stated that pension approval will be completed within 15 days of consent, and payments will be deposited directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1962, to extend its implementation to the entire state, including rural areas.

Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar stated that the revised framework will ensure comprehensive labour protection without imposing additional burdens on small establishments. The Cabinet also approved a proposal to simplify tenancy rules by providing concessions in stamp duty and registration fees for rental agreements of up to 10 years.
