This Diwali, there’s excellent news for employees and pensioners of Uttar Pradesh! The Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, has announced an increase of 3% on the Dearness Allowance (DA) for 2.8 million government employees and pensioners. The increase will be from July 1, 2025, and the disbursement in cash will be given for the month of October 2025. The Dearness Allowance will increase from 55% to 58%. The Chief Minister stated that the government is committed to the welfare of employees and pensioners and the decision would strengthen the financial security of the employees and retirees and ultimately improve their living conditions.
Moreover, this additional cost of the increase in Dearness Allowance will also be substantial. Around ₹795 crore will be distributed as an additional payment for employees and pensioners by November 2025, out of which ₹185 crores will go to the GPF of OPS personnel. The government will incur additional expenditure of over ₹550 crore for arrears to be paid from July to September 2025. The monthly expenditure by the state for the Dearness Allowance increase from December 2025 will be around ₹245 crore.
How Much Will the Salary Increase?
The Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees depends on their basic salary. For example, if an employee’s basic salary is ₹60,000, they previously received ₹33,000 as DA at 55%. After the new increase to 58%, the DA will be ₹34,800, which means their salary will go up by ₹1,800 per month.
| Basic Salary | DA 55% | DA 58% (after increase) | Salary Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹60,000 | ₹33,000 | ₹34,800 | ₹1,800 |
Central Employees Also Get a Gift
A few days ago, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Modi, approved a 3% DA increase for central government employees and pensioners, raising it to 58%. This increase is effective from July 1. Such DA increases are often announced around Diwali to benefit employees and pensioners.
