Ujjwala Yojana – Good news for poor people. The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has given a significant gift to poor families this Diwali. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, approximately 18.5 million women beneficiaries in the state will receive a free LPG cylinder refill.

This decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Friday, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally approved it. According to the government, the scheme aims to alleviate the culinary concerns of poor and needy families during the festive season, ensuring a vibrant Diwali celebration in their homes.

Under the scheme, eligible women will receive a free cylinder during Diwali, between October and December 2025. Additionally, another free refill will be provided during Holi, from January to March 2026. A total of Rs 1,385.34 crore will be spent on the scheme throughout the fiscal year, ensuring that every eligible family benefits. It’s important to note that this scheme’s benefits will only be available to women who have registered for the Ujjwala Yojana and whose names are listed as BPL families.

It’s also important to note that to qualify for the free cylinder, all necessary documents must be updated and Aadhaar authentication (KYC) complete. The government has set December 31, 2025, as the deadline for Aadhaar authentication for beneficiaries. If this process isn’t completed by the deadline, you may miss out on the free cylinder. The state government claims that this decision will provide significant relief to millions of poor families on the auspicious occasion of Diwali and strengthen women’s self-reliance. The Ujjwala Yojana will not only simplify food and drinking arrangements for families in the state, but clean fuel will also improve their health and social status.
