Update Aadhaar Card Address for Free
UIDAI has launched this significant initiative to promote digital services and save people the hassle of visiting government offices. Aadhaar card holders can now update their addresses online without any fees until July 14, 2026.
UIDAI believes this move will increase the use of digital services across the country and save people both time and money. However, this free service is only for address changes. If you want to change your name, date of birth, or biometric details (such as fingerprint, iris scan, or facial photo), you must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Process to Update Aadhaar Card Address Online
To change your Aadhaar card address from home, you simply need to visit the official UIDAI website and follow the simple steps below.
First, visit the official UIDAI website and click on the ‘Document Update’ option on the homepage.
After clicking ‘Submit,’ enter your Aadhaar number and verify it with the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
Now, select ‘Address Update’ and decide whether you want to update your address through a document or through the Head of the Family (HoF)’s Aadhaar.
Fill in the required information and upload supporting documents. After the process is complete, download or save the Acknowledgement Receipt.
This receipt contains a 14-digit URN (Update Request Number), which you can use to check the status of the update on the UIDAI website. The address verification process can take approximately 30 days.
Fees apply for other Aadhaar updates
UIDAI has clarified that changes such as name, date of birth, mobile number, and biometric updates can only be made at Aadhaar Seva Kendras. A fee of ₹75 to ₹125 has been set for these updates. Therefore, if you only need to change your address, it would be wise to avail yourself of the free online facility before July 14, 2026.
