Uber’s Air Taxi- Travel at 320 km/h and Beat City Traffic

UBER Air Taxi: Good news for everyone. Now, the sky is about to open up to avoid traffic. Uber has announced that it will launch an air taxi service called Uber Air in Dubai by the end of this year. Passengers will be able to book Joby Aviation’s all-electric air taxis directly from the Uber app.

When you enter your destination in the app, you’ll see the Uber Air option. Upon booking, an Uber car will pick you up from your home and drop you off at the air taxi stand, where you’ll fly to your destination. Uber’s Chief Product Officer, Sachin Kansal, said advanced air mobility could transform the way cities travel. Joby hopes to fly its first passengers in Dubai by the end of this year.

This taxi, built by Joby Aviation, runs entirely on electricity. It can seat one pilot and four passengers. It has a top speed of 320 km/h. It is designed to be noise-free during flight. It features large windows to allow passengers to enjoy the beautiful city views. The company claims it has been flown and tested for over 80,000 kilometers and is completely safe. It can travel up to 100 miles on a single charge.

Following necessary approvals, the service could also be launched in markets such as New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval will be required before flights can commence in the US. Uber and Joby have been working together since 2019. In 2021, Joby also acquired Uber’s Elevate division.

According to a Reuters report, the air taxi network will operate from four main vertiports currently under construction: Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. The first vertiport at Dubai International Airport will be completed by early 2026. This system is designed to provide quick travel between locations in the city’s congested areas. Initially, a car journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah takes 45 minutes, but this taxi will take just 12 minutes.
