PM Surya Ghar Yojana: During the cold winter months, the demand for geysers and heaters rises significantly. Conversely, in the sweltering summer heat, people find it hard to manage without air conditioners and refrigerators. At the same time, the anxiety over escalating electricity bills remains a persistent issue. Fortunately, a government initiative has eased the burden of these hefty bills. We’re referring to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which has alleviated the stress of electricity costs. As per government reports, since its launch in February 2024, over 2.6 million families have waved goodbye to their high electricity expenses, bringing their bills down to zero.

Government target: 1 crore homes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in February 2024, presenting a significant benefit to the citizens, particularly those concerned about soaring electricity costs. This initiative aims to install solar panels in 1 crore homes by 2027, and it has garnered a positive response since it began.

The advantages provided by this scheme, one of the key initiatives of the Modi administration, are contributing to its growing popularity. While the PM Surya Ghar Yojana offers 300 units of free electricity, the government also extends a generous subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 for the installation of solar panels on residential rooftops.

So far, 25 lakh homes have been powered up

If we trust government sources, by embracing the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, more than 26 lakh families across the nation have bid farewell to high electricity bills. With a robust subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 provided through PM Surya Ghar, solar panels are illuminating these numerous homes throughout India, thus delivering relief, savings, and clean energy all at once. The number of beneficiaries enjoying Zero Electricity Bills through this scheme is steadily on the rise.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, you can use abundant electricity with ‘zero electricity bills’ for more than two decades by investing just once. In fact, the solar panels installed on rooftops under this government scheme typically have an estimated lifespan of around 25 years. You can install them under the scheme based on your consumption.

Government is giving free electricity and heavy subsidy

Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme, while 300 units of free electricity is given by the government, under this scheme, government subsidy is also available on installation of solar panels. The government is giving subsidy of Rs 30-60 thousand on installation of 1-2 kilowatt solar panel suitable for consumption of 0-150 units, 2-3 kilowatt required for consumption of 150-300 units of electricity or Rs 60-78 thousand on panel of more than three kilowatt.
