Ticket Booking- Good news for passengers who book tickets online on Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and app. Railways has announced an increase in the limit of online ticket booking. This benefit will be available to both the user IDs linked to Aadhaar and those user IDs which are not linked to Aadhaar.

On the IRCTC website or app, user IDs that are not linked to Aadhaar have been given the facility to book a maximum of six tickets online in a month. User IDs linked to Aadhaar can book a maximum of 12 tickets online in a month. In the ticket to be booked, one of the passengers is verified through Aadhaar. Under the new system, user IDs not linked to Aadhaar will now be able to book 12 online tickets in a month instead of six.

By linking it to Aadhaar and having the user ID verifiable through Aadhaar of one of the tickets booked, now the number of online tickets booked can be doubled, i.e. 24, instead of 12 in a month. Railway Board Director Passenger Marketing Vipul Singhal has issued a letter in this regard to the Managing Director of CRIS (Centre for Railway Information System) and the Principal Chief Commercial Managers of all zones.

IRCTC has been asked to issue necessary instructions regarding the change. IRCTC should inform its registered users about this change through all possible means.

New rule of Indian Railways?

According to the rule, advance train tickets have to be booked 60 days i.e. 2 months in advance. Earlier, passengers could book train tickets 120 days in advance, which was later changed. This was done because a lot of cancellations and wastage of seats were being seen in 120 days advance ticket booking. 21 percent of tickets were cancelled and 4 to 5 percent of people did not travel.
