Digital Life Certificate: Pensioners are required to submit a life certificate every year to verify their identity and survival. Previously, this entire process was time-consuming and cumbersome, requiring queues at banks, post offices, or pension offices. Now, technology has largely eliminated this hassle. Jeevan Pramaan, or Digital Life Certificate, has completely transformed this system. Through it, millions of government pensioners can submit their certificates online within minutes, sitting at home.

The government has clarified that all central and state government pensioners are required to submit their life certificates by November 30th of every year. The process has become digital, but the deadline remains the same. If the certificate is not submitted within the stipulated time, pension payments will be stopped.

What is a Digital Life Certificate, and how does it work?

Jeevan Pramaan is an Aadhaar-based digital certificate through which pensioners provide proof of their identity and survival online. It uses the pensioner’s Aadhaar number and biometric data (iris or fingerprint). This certificate is generated digitally and sent directly to the relevant pension institution, eliminating the need to visit the bank or post office.

The difference between the old and new systems

Previously, pensioners had to fill out a physical form and submit it to the bank or post office. However, the digital process eliminates the need to carry any documents. Once the certificate is generated, a unique digital ID is created, and the system automatically sends it to the relevant authority’s portal. This process is not only simple but also fast and secure.

Who can avail of it?

Jeevan Pramaan is available only to pensioners whose pension sanctioning authority is registered on the Jeevan Pramaan system. Pensioners who have remarried or rejoined a job will not be eligible for the digital form. Such pensioners will have to submit the certificate through the traditional method. They will have to visit the Pension Disbursing Authority (PDA).

Additionally, Aadhaar number, mobile number, PPO number, bank and pension details, and biometric verification are mandatory for online certification.
