If you have an SBI credit card, this news is very important for you. It brings both good and bad news for customers. According to a notice from the State Bank of India, reward points will stop on some cards from September 1, 2025. At the same time, a new Card Protection Plan (CPP) will start for customers from September 16, 2025.
As per media reports, reward points will not be given on some online payments done with a few selected SBI credit cards from September 1, 2025. Under the new Card Protection Plan, cardholders will get only three options instead of four.
This is not the first time SBI Cards has changed its rules. In July and August 2025, the bank also made some changes. At that time, it stopped the free air accident insurance cover that was given on some premium cards like SBI Elite and SBI Prime.
Reward points will stop on these SBI cards
SBI Card has announced that from September 1, 2025, reward points will stop on some cards. This rule will apply to:
- Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card
- Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card SELECT
- Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card PRIME
- From this date, customers will not get reward points if they use these cards for:
- Digital gaming (online games, in-app purchases, top-ups, etc.)
- Payments to government services
- Some selected merchants
Changes in Card Protection Plan (CPP)
Not only reward points, but the Card Protection Plan (CPP) will also change. From September 16, 2025, all cardholders with CPP will be shifted to the new plan when their card is renewed. The bank will send an SMS or email 24 hours before renewal.
In the new plan, there will be only three options instead of four. Customers will have to pay between ₹999 and ₹1,999, based on the plan.
What is Card Protection Plan?
CPP protects your card if it is lost or stolen. With one call, you can block the card. You also get help for important documents like passport or driving license. CPP also protects against fraud such as phishing, tele-phishing, PIN fraud, or transactions without OTP. The protection can go up to ₹3 lakh, depending on the plan.
New CPP Plans
- Classic Plan – ₹999 (Primary Member Cover)
- Premium Plan – ₹1,499 (Primary Member + Spouse)
- Platinum Plan – ₹1,999 (Primary Member + Spouse + Parents)
