Driving License Update – Get Your License in 3 Simple Steps – Know the Fees

Driving License Update

Driving License Update: Everyone needs a driving license to drive a vehicle. If you are planning to get a driving license, this news could be very important for you. Earlier, people used to visit the RTO (Regional Transport Office) repeatedly to get a license. But with the new facility, you can apply for a driving license online and offline. However, it’s worth noting that this process has not yet been implemented in some states. In the remaining states, people are applying for driving licenses through this process. Let’s learn about the step-by-step process.

Eligibility for Driving License

To drive geared motorcycles and light motor vehicles (LMV), the applicant must be at least 18 years old. Driving licenses are of different types, such as a learner’s license, which is temporary and valid for 6 months. A permanent driving license is valid until the age of 20 or 50 years. Separate licenses are required for commercial vehicles, and an International Driving Permit is needed to drive vehicles abroad.

Applying for a Learner’s License

Learning to drive begins with a learner’s license, which allows you to drive under supervision. To apply, first visit the parivahan.gov.in website. Go to the “Online Services” section and select “Driving License Related Services”. After this, you will reach the Sarathi portal. Select your state there. Then click on the learner’s license option and choose the vehicle category. After that, upload the necessary documents, pay the prescribed fee, and book a slot for the driving test.

Practice Driving

After receiving the learner’s license, you get at least 30 days to practice, while its validity is 6 months. During this time, those driving two-wheelers should practice balance and gear shifting. Car drivers should focus on things like braking, making the right decisions, and parking.

Applying for a Permanent Driving License

After completing your training, visit the Sarathi portal again and select the “Apply for Driving License” option. Here, you will need to enter your learner’s license details. An application form will then open; select your vehicle category and submit the form. After submission, you will receive an application receipt. Now, upload the necessary documents, pay the license issuance fee, and book a slot for the driving test. This test is conducted by an RTO (Regional Transport Office) official and assesses your driving skills. After passing the test, your driving license is usually sent to your address within 2 to 3 weeks.
