ATM Rules- There’s a big update for ATM users. From May 1, 2025, the new rules of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ATM transaction charges are coming into effect. That is, after May 1, now the limit of free transactions across the country and the charges for additional transactions and interchange charges will increase. Free ATM transaction limit from 1 May 2025

1. All savings account holders will get the facility of doing 5 free transactions from their bank’s ATM every month. This includes financial and non-financial transactions like cash withdrawal, balance check, PIN change, mini statement etc.
2. On transacting from other bank’s ATM, 3 transactions are under the free limit in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore. Apart from this, in non-metro areas

There is a limit of 5 free transactions. This limit will apply to all types of financial and non-financial transactions.
How much will be charged for transactions beyond the ATM free limit? On exceeding the free transaction limit, a maximum of Rs 23 + GST ​​will have to be paid for each transaction (financial and non-financial). Earlier it was Rs 21 plus GST. In some banks like PNB, Rs 11 plus GST can be charged for non-financial transactions. Apart from this HDFC Bank has also made it clear that the charge will be levied only on cash withdrawals from ATMs in excess of the free limit. Non-financial transactions will remain free.

Rules of Cash Recycler Machine(CRM)

Rules for cash recycler machines are also changing from May 1. Cash withdrawal or non-financial transactions from CRM may also attract a fee of up to Rs 23 after the free limit.

How much will the interchange fee increase

One bank provides ATM service to another bank for which it charges ATM interchange fee. RBI has also increased the
interchange fee. Which has been increased from Rs 17 to Rs 19. For non-Key U transactions, this fee has been increased from Rs 6 to Rs 7.

Rules related to ATM charges in State Bank of India

All savings account holders will get 5 free transactions at SBI ATMs, and SBI card holders will get 10 free transactions at ATMs of other banks. From May 1, 2025, customers will also be charged Rs 23 per transaction for exceeding the free limit.
