The Government of India has made it mandatory to get e-KYC done by June 30 to make the ration distribution system more transparent. If you do not do this, then your ration card may be canceled and you will stop getting cheap or free ration. If you have got KYC done and yet your name has been removed from the ration card list by mistake, then immediately contact the ration shop or food supply office in your area. Take the correct documents (such as Aadhaar, and mobile number) with you and apply again. If there is any error in your documents (such as your Aadhaar is wrong or, the number is not updated), then get them corrected first.

Last date for KYC in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is 30 June

Bihar Food and Consumer Protection Department has also fixed 30 June 2025 as the last date for linking ration cards with Aadhaar. Holders will not have to pay any fee for Aadhaar seeding, they can get Aadhaar seeding (eKYC) done through e-POS Device placed at the shop of any Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) vendor. If the Aadhaar seeding of any member mentioned in the ration card is not done by June 30, then his name will be removed from the ration card (effective from 01 July 2025) and he will not be given the benefit of food grains.

In Uttar Pradesh too, the last date for KYC is 30th June. Otherwise, beneficiaries may stop getting food grains from the Public Distribution System (PDS). If a beneficiary is living in another state, he does not need to return to his home state for Aadhaar seeding. Beneficiaries can visit the nearest Public Distribution System shop from their current location and complete the process through an e-POS machine. This is possible under the One Nation One Ration Card scheme.

Why is eKYC necessary for ration card holders

The main reason for the e-KYC process of ration cards i.e. ‘Know Your Customer’ is to verify the identity of ration card holders and eliminate fake ration cards. By completing the KYC process, only those people will get the benefit who are eligible. If there is a fake ration card in someone’s name, it can be easily removed. Under the e-KYC process, every ration card member has to match his/her name, date of birth, etc. with his/her Aadhaar data, ensuring the accuracy of the data.

How to complete Ration Card e-KYC online

The online process of ration card e-KYC is state-specific, as each state has its own PDS platform. Here are the general steps:

Each state has its own Public Distribution System (PDS) website. For example, fcs.up.gov.in for Uttar Pradesh and sfc.bihar.gov.in for Bihar.

In the ‘Services’ or ‘Ration Card’ menu on the homepage, you will see an option called the “e-KYC for Ration Card” segment or something similar. Go to it.

Here you have to enter your ration card number and Aadhaar number (of the head of the family or the concerned member).

Use the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar account. Complete the verification by entering the OTP sent to your phone.

After entering the details, you will receive a message confirming the successful completion of your e-KYC.
