Public Holiday 2026: Big news for everyone. The Maharashtra government has announced public holidays for the year 2026. Next year, all government offices in the state will observe 24 public holidays. A special one-day holiday has been declared for Bhai Dooj. The General Administration Department has issued an official notification in this regard.

These holidays, announced by the state government, apply to all offices and institutions in Maharashtra. This includes all government offices, state undertakings, municipal corporations, municipal councils, town councils, district councils, panchayat committees, and gram panchayats. This list of public holidays includes major festivals and days of national importance. In 2026, Maharashtra Day, Buddha Purnima on May 1, Independence Day, and the Parsi New Year on August 15 fall on the same date, causing government offices to be completely closed. A special additional holiday has been announced for Bhai Dooj on November 11 (Wednesday).

Whereas, in 2026, both Mahashivratri (Mahashivratri 2026) and Lakshmi Pujan (Diwali) festivals are falling on Sunday, due to which there will be no need for separate holiday for these days.

Special holiday for banks

Apart from public holidays, 1st April 2026 (Wednesday) has been declared as a holiday for annual audit for banks only.
