Unprecedented good news for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The Central Government has taken a historic decision regarding the LPG gas subsidy. The Union Cabinet,chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,has given its unprecedented approval to continue the unprecedented subsidy of ₹300 on a 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder until the financial year 2025-26.

Extension of the ₹300 Subsidy
The direct subsidy of ₹300 under the Ujjwala Yojana will now be fully extended until March 2026. This decision has been taken to mitigate the impact of global market fluctuations on poor families. The government estimates that this public-friendly decision will cost approximately ₹12,000 crore,which will directly benefit millions of poor families.
Maximum 9 refills per year
This subsidy will be available to beneficiaries for a maximum of nine refills per year. This limited provision ensures that the subsidy reaches only the most needy families and is used efficiently. Previously,the subsidy was ₹200 per cylinder,but it has now been increased by ₹100 to ₹300,making cooking gas significantly more affordable for Ujjwala beneficiaries.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched in May 2016. Its primary objective was to provide LPG connections to poor families,especially women,without any down payment. As of July 1,2025,approximately 103.3 million connections have been provided across the country.
Special Features under Ujjwala 2.0
Under this scheme,beneficiaries do not incur any expenses on cylinders,regulators,pipes,DGCC manuals,or installation fees. Under Ujjwala 2.0,the first refill and stove are also provided completely free of charge. All these costs are jointly borne by the government and oil companies,significantly helping poor families adopt cooking gas without any financial burden. This historic subsidy expansion fully demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the poor.
