How much is currently provided under the scheme?

According to the current system, farmers enrolled in the scheme receive a total of Rs 6,000 annually. This amount is disbursed in three installments, with Rs 2,000 being directly transferred to the farmer’s bank account in each installment. Due to the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) system, there is no role for intermediaries, and the money reaches the beneficiary directly.

Why the discussion about Rs 12,000?

For some time now, there has been speculation that the amount under the PM Kisan scheme might be doubled, considering rising inflation and agricultural costs. In December 2024, a parliamentary committee suggested to the government that the annual assistance given to farmers be increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 to provide greater relief to farmers.

What has the government clarified?

Recently, this issue was raised in the Rajya Sabha. In response, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, clarified that the government currently has no proposal to increase the installments under the PM Kisan scheme. This means that there will be no change in the amount received by farmers under the scheme in the near future.
