Good news for the country’s 9.8 crore farmers! Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 19th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) on February 24. Under this, about Rs 22,000 crore will be transferred directly to farmers’ accounts. According to PTI, the PM-KISAN scheme provides each beneficiary farmer with Rs 6,000 per year in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 every four months.

PM to Release Rs 22,000 Crore from Bhagalpur

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 19th instalment of PM-Kisan at an event in Bhagalpur, Bihar, on February 24. The amount will be directly deposited into the bank accounts of eligible farmers.

Chouhan also mentioned that the number of beneficiaries has increased from 9.6 crore in the 18th instalment. Launched in February 2019, PM-Kisan is the world’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. It has helped farmers manage expenses for seeds and fertilizers.

Farmers Receive Rs 6,000 Annually

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme was launched to increase the income of farmers. Under this scheme, each beneficiary receives Rs 6,000 per year, divided into three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 every four months. So far, the government has disbursed Rs 3.46 lakh crore under PM-KISAN. After the release of the 19th instalment, this amount will increase to Rs 3.68 lakh crore.

Focus on Farmer Income and Natural Farming

Chouhan stated that the government is committed to:

  • Increasing agricultural production
  • Reducing input costs
  • Enhancing farmers’ income
  • Promoting natural farming

Major Events in Bhagalpur

Chouhan shared details about the Bhagalpur event, stating that around 2.5 crore farmers will participate physically and virtually. Bihar’s Governor, Chief Minister, and Union Ministers will also attend. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate:

  1. A dairy processing unit in Barauni
  2. A Centre of Excellence under the Gokul Mission
  3. Several rail projects in Bihar
