If your crop has been damaged due to rain or any natural disaster, then do not panic. The PM Crop Insurance Scheme of the Central Government is a great support for you. Through this scheme, financial assistance is given to the farmers, so that they can compensate for the loss caused by natural disasters. Recently, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma sent insurance amounts to the accounts of more than 35 lakh farmers by pressing a button, which has given them great relief.
What is the PM Crop Insurance Scheme, and who got the benefit
The purpose of the PM Crop Insurance Scheme is to protect farmers from crop damage due to heavy rains, floods, drought, or other natural disasters. Farmers who had insured the Rabi (winter) crop and claimed after the loss have received money directly into their accounts. More than 35,000 farmers of Rajasthan participated in this program, while farmers from 23 states of the country were also connected to it virtually.

What is the premium for crop insurance?
The crop insurance premiums are quite low in all the states. However, in some states (such as Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and northeastern states), farmers do not have to pay any premium. In other places, farmers have to pay premiums according to the type of crop:
- For Kharif crops (paddy, maize, etc.), the premium is 2% of the sum insured.
- For Rabi crops (wheat, gram, etc.), the premium is 1.5%.
- While for commercial and horticultural crops, the maximum premium is 5%.
- The rest of the premium is paid by the central and state governments together.
How to report crop loss
If your crop is damaged due to a natural calamity, then under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, you have to inform the insurance company within 72 hours. The insurance company will visit your farm and assess the damage, after which the compensation amount will be sent to your account.
