If you are a farmer and are worried about crop loss due to a natural disaster, then this news is very important for you. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will transfer crop insurance amount of ₹ 3,200 crore to the bank accounts of 30 lakh farmers today (11 August 2025). This program will be held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, where Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma will also be present.
This amount is being given under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). Now, some major changes have also been made in this scheme, so that farmers will be able to get benefits on time and without any hassle. Let us understand all these important changes in detail.
What is the PM Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY)
PMFBY is for every farmer in India whose crop is damaged due to a natural disaster, such as flood, drought, or hailstorm. The biggest advantage of this scheme is that in case of loss, compensation comes directly to the farmer’s bank account, so that they can start farming again without delay. Now, farmers do not have to visit government offices; they can check the status of their application online from home.

Amount to be received by farmers
Today, 30 lakh farmers will get a total insurance amount of ₹ 3,200 crore. This amount will be distributed to the farmers of different states in this way:
Main Country ₹ 1,156 crore (highest)
Rajasthan ₹ 1,121 crore
Chhattisgarh ₹ 150 crore
State ₹ 773 crore
Now there will be a penalty for delay
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that from Kharif 2025, if any state government delays in making its subsidy contribution, then a penalty of 12% will be imposed on them. Similarly, if insurance companies delay payment, then a penalty of 12% will also be imposed on them. With this decision, farmers will be able to get their compensation on time.
New and easy process of claim settlement
Now farmers will not have to wait long for relief. The central government has started a new and simple process. Now, without waiting for the premium share of the states, payment will be made immediately, only based on the central subsidy. This change has been made, given the previous problems in states like Andhra Pradesh, where farmers had to suffer due to the non-deposit of the state government’s share of the premium.
How to check the status of crop insurance

If you have also applied under PMFBY, then you can check your status by following these easy steps:
First of all, open the official website (https://pmfby.gov.in).
Click on the “Application Status” on the homepage.
On the next page, enter your receipt number and the given captcha code.
After checking all the information, click on the “Check Status” button.
Now the live status of your application will appear on the screen.
Fraud exposed in Maharashtra
According to shocking news, about 1.75 lakh farmers in 8 districts of Maharashtra (Solapur, Pune, Satara, Ahmednagar, Dhule, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Beed) had given wrong information for crop insurance. Investigation revealed that these farmers had submitted fake documents. The maximum irregularities were found in Solapur district, where the claims of 36,438 farmers were found suspicious. The state government has now decided to exclude all of them from the scheme. This step has been taken in the direction of making this scheme more transparent.
