Major Government Initiatives for Farmers’ Welfare
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that these new schemes will play a crucial role in increasing farmers’ income and reshaping the agricultural sector. These schemes will benefit farmers in 100 aspirational districts, which currently lag behind other districts in agricultural production. The government aims to rapidly develop these backward districts, strengthening the country’s food security and farmers’ prosperity.
Objective of the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana
This scheme will be implemented in districts with low agricultural production. Under this scheme, farmers will be provided with improved technology, modern farming equipment, and scientific advice. Multi-crop systems, soil health improvement, and crop diversification will also be promoted. The goal is to bring agricultural productivity in these districts at par with the national average, thereby increasing farmers’ income and strengthening the rural economy.
Pulse production will increase in the country
India still imports a large portion of pulses. Consequently, the government has launched a special mission to increase pulse production. Farmers in areas with low pulse production will be provided with improved seeds, training, and incentives. By 2030-31, 12.6 million quintals of certified seeds will be made available to farmers. The government will distribute 8.8 million mini seed kits free of charge and provide a subsidy of up to ₹2.5 million for 1,000 pulse processing units.
Providing more benefits to farmers
Currently, 97 million farmers are benefiting from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. Now, eligible farmers left out in the 100 aspirational districts will also be included in this scheme. This will provide direct financial assistance to millions of farmers. These schemes will also be linked to other projects of the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure overall agricultural development.
Which Districts Will Benefit?
The government has selected 100 districts across the country with low productivity. These districts include districts from 29 states and union territories, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. Special campaigns will be launched in these districts to implement agricultural improvement and farmer training programs.

Government’s Goal
According to the Agriculture Minister, if these 100 low-productivity districts are brought up to the national average, the country’s overall productivity will increase significantly, and self-sufficiency in food grain and pulse production will be achieved. This will not only meet the needs of farmers but will also increase their income manifold.
