PF: Jobs and finances play a vital role in ensuring your future financial stability. The amount deducted for the Provident Fund from your monthly salary not only proves beneficial after retirement but also acts as a substantial safety net during tough times. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization is responsible for protecting this amount and providing interest on it. However, if you haven’t designated a nominee for your PF account, this oversight could pose a challenge for your family later on. Today, we want to highlight some important actions you might be neglecting with your PF account that could lead to your funds being inaccessible.
It’s essential to designate a nominee for your PF account.
If you haven’t assigned a nominee to your PF account, your funds may become inaccessible. In fact, if an employee passes away without a registered nominee in their PF account, the family may face a lengthy legal battle to access the PF funds. They often need to secure a court certificate and provide additional documentation, which can be both time-consuming and costly.
However, once a nominee is designated, the PF funds are transferred directly to the individual selected by the account holder. Additionally, the EPFO has streamlined the process of adding a nominee to be entirely online. Employees can now complete e-nominations for their PF accounts from the comfort of their own homes using the EPFO member portal.
How can you add a nominee to your PF account?
To add a nominee to your PF account, start by heading over to the official EPFO website at unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface.
Log in using your UAN number and password.
Once you’re logged in, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, so enter that OTP to finish logging in.
Next, navigate to the Manage section and choose E-Nomination.
Then, go to the Provided Details tab and save your info.
After that, click Yes to update the family declaration and fill in the details of your family member in Add Family Details.
In the Nomination Details section, provide the nominee’s name, Aadhaar number, and address.
Finally, click on E-Sign.
The e-nomination process will be complete once you enter the OTP received on the mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
What should you keep in mind?
You can add multiple nominees to your PF account and specify what percentage of the funds each will receive. If you get married or have any family changes, make sure to update the nominee details. Also, ensure that your Aadhaar and other information are filled out correctly to prevent any issues down the line.
