EPFO’s new mobile app is ready, PF Withdrawals Now Possible via UPI

EPFO New App: The central government plans to introduce a new mobile application for the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) by the end of March. This app will enable EPFO subscribers to directly withdraw their PF funds using UPI. Two senior officials who are knowledgeable about the situation shared this information with Moneycontrol.

The upcoming EPFO app will differ from UMANG

Officials have stated that this new app will be distinct from the current UMANG app. It will be directly connected to the subscriber’s bank account and will also work in conjunction with BHIM and other UPI applications to streamline transactions.

How can PF money be withdrawn via UPI?

An official, who requested to remain anonymous, mentioned, “In this new system, funds will first be transferred directly from the EPFO account to the subscriber’s bank account. The same amount can then be accessed through UPI.”

At present, PF withdrawals necessitate online claims through the UAN portal, but immediate withdrawals via UPI are not yet an option. The new app aims to resolve this limitation.

Preparations for the launch by the end of March

Officials have confirmed that the app has undergone testing and is anticipated to be launched by the end of March. Once this feature is implemented, EPFO subscribers will find it easier to withdraw funds from their accounts.

What is the maximum PF amount that can be withdrawn?

As per the regulations, subscribers are allowed to withdraw up to 75% of their EPF balance into their bank account. It is required to keep at least 25% of the balance in the EPF account. This indicates that a portion of the total PF corpus must always stay in the account. If an employee becomes unemployed, the remaining 25% of the EPF amount can only be withdrawn after a waiting period of 12 months. Withdrawals will not be allowed before this timeframe.

What will change for employees?

The new EPFO app and UPI feature will make the PF withdrawal process faster, easier, and more digital. Problems like lengthy forms, repeated logins, and processing times are expected to be significantly reduced.
