On a daily basis, along with the sun rising in the east, people wake up to a whole new set of petrol and diesel prices. The new price of fuel is determined by the World Market price of crude oil and the exchange rate between the dollar and the rupee and therefore it now affects every aspect of the average persons life in India. Every day at 6am Oil Marketing Companies release their latest rates for petrol and diesel. Therefore, being aware of daily fuel prices helps to prevent an individual from getting ripped off or being provided inaccurate or unverified information.

A few days back there were concerns over potential increases in gasoline and diesel costs due to recent increases in Taxes on gasoline and diesel. This was proven incorrect when the Ministry of Petroleum And Natural Gas confirmed that while there was an increase in the Tax on gasoline and diesel, Retail Prices for both products will NOT be affected by the increase on Tax.

The Ministry made this announcement via its social media account ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter) and indicated that this confirmation came from the public sector Oil Companies who have confirmed this decision publicly.

In May of 2022, many state governments & federal authorities lowered taxes on fuel; thus, petrol & diesel prices have consistently remained stable, amid many overall fluctuations from the global markets. Despite the rise/fall of crude oil in the international market, prices for Indians remain nearly unchanged.
