LPG Rules May: LPG gas cylinders have been a hot topic in India for the last two months. Due to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, the prices of crude oil and gas have been fluctuating, which is directly affecting the prices of domestic and commercial gas cylinders in India. As a result, it is anticipated that LPG gas prices may change starting next month, on May 1st, and there could also be significant changes to the related regulations. Today, we will discuss these changes. Let’s dive into the details.
New price of LPG cylinder from May 1
At the start of each month, oil companies announce new prices for LPG cylinders. Therefore, this month will be no different, as oil companies will unveil new prices for LPG cylinders. Last month, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was raised by about ₹60. Additionally, the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder has seen three consecutive increases. Between March and April, commercial cylinders have become approximately Rs 300 more expensive. With the ongoing instability in the global market, it is expected that LPG cylinder prices will rise again this time.
New rules for booking LPG cylinders
The government has tightened the regulations for booking LPG cylinders. In urban areas, there will now be a 25-day waiting period before you can book a second cylinder. This waiting period was previously 21 days. In rural regions, this time frame may be extended to 45 days. This measure aims to curb the misuse and black marketing of LPG gas.
New rules for LPG cylinder delivery
An OTP-based system has been introduced for the delivery of LPG cylinders. When the delivery person arrives with the cylinder, you will receive an OTP on your mobile device. The delivery will only be completed after you enter this OTP. The government claims this will help prevent the misuse of subsidized cylinders. Currently, around 94% of deliveries are verified through this system, and it may be further tightened in the future.
