Driving License Update: A driving license (DL) is a mandatory document for any driver. Driving without a license can result in a hefty fine. Even if you’re learning to drive, you must have a learning license. Previously, you had to go to the RTO office and take a test, where long lines and time constraints were common. But now, this process has become much easier. Now, you can apply for and obtain a learning license from the comfort of your home. Let’s learn more about it.
Apply for a Learning License from Home
You can now apply for a learning license online through the Parivahan Sewa official website. Visit the website, select your state, and click on the Learning License option. Then, fill out the online application form and upload the required documents. Upon completing the application, you will receive an application number, which you must keep safe.
How to Take the Online Learning License Test
After receiving the application number, log in to the portal again and go to the Online DL Test option. The test can be initiated by entering the application number and the captcha code. Before taking the test, you can also view the tutorials available on the portal, which provide a better understanding of the rules. This way, you can obtain a learning license from home without visiting the RTO.
No need to carry hard copies of DL and RC
The central government has provided another major relief to drivers. Now, it is no longer mandatory to carry physical copies of the driving license and registration certificate (RC) while driving. You can show the digital documents saved in DigiLocker or the m-Parivahan app to the traffic police.
It should be noted that following an order from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the DL and RC available in DigiLocker and the m-Parivahan app have been deemed legally valid. These documents are valid under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. This means that documents displayed in digital form are as valid as the originals.
Police cannot force hard copies.
If your documents are available in the DigiLocker or m-Parivahan apps, the traffic police cannot force you to show them physical copies. However, the documents must be saved in a government-approved app. Digital documents stored in any other unauthorized app will not be recognized.
This makes the process of obtaining a driving license and carrying it digitally and easy. This not only saves time but also reduces the risk of documents being lost or damaged.
