This scheme benefits girls who are permanent residents of Uttarakhand, enabling poor and economically weaker families to secure their daughters’ education and future.
Financial support from birth to education
The Nanda Gaura Yojana is implemented in two phases. In the first phase, a lump-sum financial assistance is provided by the government after the birth of the girl child, which is transferred to a joint bank account of the mother and daughter. This amount proves helpful for the child’s health and care in her early life.
In the second phase, assistance is provided when the girl passes the 12th grade. At this time, a larger amount is sent directly to the bank account by the government, so that there is no financial obstacle to higher education or further studies.
How much money is received under the Nanda Gaura Yojana?
Under this scheme, assistance of Rs. 11,000 is provided at the time of the girl’s birth. It is mandatory to register for the scheme within six months of the child’s birth. After this, when the girl passes the 12th grade, an amount of Rs. 51,000 is given by the government. Thus, a total financial benefit of Rs. 62,000 is received under the Nanda Gaura Yojana.
The government’s objective behind the scheme
The main objective of the Nanda Gaura Yojana is to create a positive change in society’s attitude towards girls. Through this scheme, the government emphasizes preventing female feticide, reducing the problem of child marriage, and making girls self-reliant through education. This scheme also provides financial security to families, so that daughters can complete their education without any pressure.
Who can benefit from the Nanda Gaura Scheme?
This scheme is only for girls who are permanent residents of Uttarakhand. A maximum of two daughters per family is eligible for the scheme. The child must be born in a government or private hospital or a recognized ANM center. Home births assisted by a traditional birth attendant are not considered valid under this scheme.
There is an income limit for families, and an income certificate issued by the Tehsildar is required. If the child was born outside the state, the relevant certificate must also be submitted at the time of application.
