EPFO Rule Changes: The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made some important changes for its members in 2025. More than 7 crore EPFO members will benefit from these changes. If you are also an EPF member, then quickly check what all these changes are.
PF transfer when changing jobs
Earlier, transferring PF when changing jobs was a long and sometimes technically difficult process, requiring approval from the employer. But from 15 January 2025, approval from the old or new employer is not required in most cases. This makes transferring PF funds to the new account faster and easier.
UAN and joint declaration process
Under the new rules applicable from 16 January 2025, EPFO has made the joint declaration process digital. If your UAN is linked to Aadhaar or Aadhaar is already verified, you can submit the joint declaration online.
But if your UAN has not been created yet, Aadhaar is not linked or the concerned member has died, then in such cases it will be necessary to submit the physical form.
Pension process in case of high salary
EPFO has increased transparency in the policy regarding pension on higher wages. Now employees can view and choose their pension options online. Also, pension related updates are also being sent through SMS and email.
Updating profile has become very easy
Now if your Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked to Aadhaar, you can update details like your name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parents’ name, marital status, spouse’s name and job starting date online without any documents. However, members whose UAN was generated before October 1, 2017, may need to seek approval from their employer in certain cases.
Centralized system for pension payment
EPFO has launched Centralized Pension Payment System (CPPS) from 1 January 2025. Under this, now the pension will be sent directly to any bank account through NPCI platform.
Earlier, PPOs (Pension Payment Orders) had to be transferred from one office to another for pension payments, which caused delays. Now this process has been completely abolished. Also, the new PPO will now be mandatorily linked to UAN, so that pensioners can also submit digital life certificates easily.
