However, many folks are eagerly waiting for a direct Vande Bharat Express from Delhi to Srinagar, so they can experience the stunning valleys of Kashmir up close. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has addressed the demand for a direct train from Delhi to Srinagar, and it’s something you should be aware of.
Last year, Indian Railways hit a significant milestone by connecting Kashmir by rail, and they also launched the Vande Bharat train. This route features two remarkable bridges: the Chenab and Anji Bridges, which are the highest in the world. Right now, the train operates between Srinagar and Jammu, with services available in both directions, so you can travel whenever you like, whether it’s morning or evening. Still, many people are hoping for a direct Vande Bharat train from Delhi to Srinagar, and they’re curious about when this service will finally begin.
As for the Railway Minister’s response, Ashwini Vaishnav explained that trains designed for flat terrains can’t be used in mountainous areas because their designs differ. He mentioned that during his recent travels to Davos (Switzerland) and Munich (Germany), he had to switch trains. Given the Minister’s comments, it seems that the prospect of a direct train from Delhi to Srinagar is not looking promising at the moment.
What makes the train running in the valley so special?
Vande Bharat has been specifically designed to operate in extremely low temperatures found in the valley. It comes with a heating system that includes silicon heating pads to stop the water tanks and bio-toilet tanks from freezing. Additionally, it features an overheat protection sensor. This means that even in freezing conditions, the water won’t freeze after the train has been running. Heaters are installed to ensure that passengers receive warm air throughout their journey.
How does it perform in snowy conditions?
The windshield is fitted with embedded heating elements. The front glass has heating elements for defrosting, which guarantees clear visibility, even during heavy snowfall. This setup allows the loco pilot to have a clear view and operate the train without any issues.
