Now 125 Days of Employment Guaranteed
According to government sources, the number of guaranteed employment days under the scheme has been increased to 125. Previously, the limit was 100 days. The government says that the benefit of these additional days will provide rural families with more work and a better source of income throughout the year. This will particularly benefit families whose livelihoods depend on agriculture and daily wage labour.
Effort to Strengthen Rural Livelihoods
The government believes that this change will also help reduce migration from villages. More work opportunities at the local level will reduce the need for people to migrate to cities. It will also accelerate infrastructure development projects in villages.
What is the Core Idea of the Scheme?
This scheme is based on the concept of the right to work. Under this scheme, if any rural adult demands work, it is legally mandatory to provide them with employment within 15 days. If work is not provided within the stipulated time, there is also a provision for unemployment allowance in the law.
Important Role of Women and Panchayats
The participation of women has been given special importance in this scheme. According to the rules, at least one-third of the beneficiaries must be women. Panchayats and Gram Sabhas have also been given primary responsibility in planning and implementing the works, ensuring that development projects are carried out according to local needs.

Among the World’s Largest Employment Guarantee Schemes
Launched by the Ministry of Rural Development, this scheme is considered one of the world’s largest work guarantee programs. In recent years, it has employed millions of rural families. The government says that despite the changes in the name and the number of workdays, the core spirit of the scheme will remain the same, which is to reduce rural poverty and provide economic security.
