Petrol and Diesel Price Hike: There are many rumors spreading on social media about a major rise in petrol and diesel prices. Additionally, some speculate that fuel prices could soar after today’s voting concludes. A significant update has been provided regarding these assertions. The PIB Fact Check Unit has confirmed that these claims are entirely untrue.

The PIB has clarified that the central government has not released any orders to raise fuel prices. The government has urged the public to disregard such misleading information and to depend solely on official channels.

What was claimed on social media?

In recent days, various posts have emerged on social media, suggesting that the Petroleum Ministry intends to hike petrol prices by Rs 10 per liter and diesel prices by Rs 12.5 per liter. However, the government has now officially refuted these assertions.

Political Tensions Rise Over Fuel Prices

The political climate has also heated up concerning fuel prices. Opposition leaders have strongly voiced their concerns during the election period. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi warned on April 28 that petrol and diesel prices would increase post-elections. He accused the government of benefiting from low crude oil prices while placing the burden on the public. During the West Bengal elections, TMC leader Nilanjan Das also charged the BJP government with covertly raising prices during the election season.

Global Issues Affecting Oil Prices

Current global conflicts and tensions have affected crude oil availability. Following the Israeli and US strikes on Iran, the Strait of Hormuz has been shut down, disrupting international supply chains. Despite global pressures, senior government officials stated on Tuesday that there are no immediate plans to increase petrol and diesel prices.

The PIB has warned individuals not to share any sensitive information on social media without proper verification. For official updates, please check the Ministry of Petroleum, Government of India’s website or the PIB’s official handle.
