8th Pay Commission is yet to be effective. During the festival season, employees are waiting for the announcement to come. But the wait prolonged more. What are the government’s plan on the 8th Pay Commission?
Latest updates on 8th Pay Commission
A new announcement regarding the 8th Pay Commission may be made by the Central Government soon. It is hoped that the ongoing obstacles in the 8th Pay Commission process will be removed. However, till now neither the committee has been formed by the government nor its members have been announced.
It should be noted that the government approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission in January 2025, but an official notification has not yet been issued. Shortly before, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated in the Rajya Sabha that a notification regarding the commission is pending. He also stated that a final decision has not been taken, but preparations are underway.
Previously, it was said that the central government might issue the notification by Diwali. However, media reports now suggest that the central government may issue the notification in November. However, no official statement has yet been issued regarding this. As soon as the notification is issued, the commission’s chairman and members will be appointed. Experts believe that the government cannot take much time to draft the 8th Pay Commission, as the 7th Pay Commission’s term will end on December 31st. After this, the government will have to take necessary steps.
It is anticipated that the Eighth Pay Commission may eliminate travel allowances, special duty allowances, minor regional allowances, and some departmental allowances (such as the long-standing typing/clerical allowance). However, no official statement has yet been issued regarding this. The government’s goal is to make the salary structure “logical and simple” this time as well.
Who it can be benefited
In fact, the income of government employees and pensioners is determined every 10 years through a new Pay Commission. The 7th Pay Commission was the last one implemented. Now, the 8th Pay Commission is expected to provide significant benefits to employees in terms of basic salary, allowances, and pensions.
