Good news for lakhs of state government employees. Great news for government employees and pensioners in Uttar Pradesh! The Yogi Adityanath government might have a nice surprise in store before Holi. Reports suggest that following the central government’s increase in dearness allowance for its employees, the UP government is also looking to boost the DA for its staff starting January 1, 2025. This change could benefit around 28 lakh employees and pensioners.

The central government typically reviews the dearness allowance and relief rates for its employees and pensioners twice a year, based on the half-yearly data from the All India Consumer Price Index. These adjustments usually happen in January and July, with announcements made around March and October. There’s a chance that a proposal for increasing the dearness allowance will be discussed in the cabinet meeting before Holi. Following the central government’s lead, state governments, including UP, are expected to make similar adjustments.

If the media is correct, the Yogi government is gearing up to raise the dearness allowance by 3% starting January 2025, with the Personnel and Finance Department already working on it. Once the central government announces the new DA rates, the proposal will go to the Yogi Cabinet for approval, and once it gets the green light, employees and pensioners will see their DA jump to 56%.

Additionally, there might be a decision regarding the annual increment for over two lakh employees. About 25% of state employees who don’t receive an increment in July could get an extra 3% raise in January, leading to a total salary increase of around 6%. The rest of the employees will also enjoy a 3% salary hike.
