Are you a beneficiary of the Maharashtra government’s ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’, A major and significant change has been made to the rules of this excellent scheme. Until now, only the female beneficiary’s e-KYC was required, but now married women will be required to complete their husband’s e-KYC, and unmarried women will be required to complete their father’s e-KYC. This strict government move will ensure that the scheme’s benefits reach truly needy women whose annual family income is less than ₹2.5 lakh. If you fail to complete this mandatory e-KYC, your financial assistance of ₹1,500 may be stopped.

Why is the eKYC of the husband or father required

In the past few months, the government has discovered a serious discrepancy. Many women were availing of the scheme benefits even though their family’s total income was well above the annual limit of ₹2.5 lakh. Previously, only the woman’s personal income was considered, resulting in many women who were unemployed themselves, but whose husbands or fathers had very good incomes, benefiting from the scheme.

Under the new guidelines, the husband’s income will now be included if married and the father’s income if unmarried, to accurately assess family income. If the family’s total annual income exceeds the limit, the beneficiary will be immediately excluded from the scheme. The government says this e-KYC process will create a solid record of family financial status to ensure benefits reach the right beneficiaries.
