Know about the new rules of FASTag, otherwise you will have to pay double toll from February 17

Another big news for vehicle owners. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is rolling out new rules for FASTag balance validation, which will take effect on February 17, 2025. Users need to pay closer attention to their FASTag status, as failing to do so could lead to payment issues.

So, what are the new FASTag rules?

On January 28, 2025, NPCI announced that starting February 17, 2025, if your FASTag is blacklisted for over 60 minutes before it’s scanned at the toll plaza, or if it’s blacklisted for at least 10 minutes after being scanned, your payment won’t go through. This gives users a 70-minute window to fix any issues with their FASTag.

These changes will directly affect users. If you try to recharge a blacklisted FASTag right before reaching the toll, you could run into problems. If your FASTag is already blacklisted when you arrive, recharging it won’t help with the payment.

Here’s a breakdown:

1. If your FASTag is blacklisted before you get to the toll and stays blacklisted after it’s scanned, you won’t be able to pay, and you’ll end up paying double the toll.

2. If your FASTag is blacklisted but you recharge it within 60 minutes of it being scanned or within 10 minutes after, your payment will go through, and you’ll pay the regular toll.

3. If you cross the toll with a blacklisted FASTag, you’ll be charged double. However, if you do this within 10 minutes after it’s scanned, you’ll still face the double charge.

4. If you recharge in time, you can ask for a penalty refund, and you won’t incur any extra charges.

5. This means it’s crucial to keep your FASTag balance in check and sort out any KYC issues. Avoid last-minute recharges!

How to verify blacklist status

1. Go to the official Transport Department website.

2. Look for the option that says “Check E-Challan Status” or something similar.

3. Input your vehicle registration number.

4. This will allow you to find out if your vehicle is blacklisted.

How to reactivate FASTag

1. Start by recharging your FASTag and ensuring you meet the minimum balance requirement.

2. Next, confirm the payment.

3. After that, you will be able to check the status of your FASTag.

4. Your FASTag will be activated shortly thereafter.
