Big news has come about the ₹50 coin. For a long time, people believed that a new ₹50 coin would be launched in the market. But now, the central government has clearly said that there is no plan to introduce a ₹50 coin. The government shared this information with the Delhi High Court. It was responding to a petition that requested ₹50 coins for visually impaired people.
At present, ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10, and ₹20 coins are in circulation in the market. However, there is no ₹50 coin available.
People Prefer Notes Over Coins
The government told the court that in 2022, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) did a survey. The survey showed that people like ₹10 and ₹20 notes more than coins. It also found that people find coins too heavy and large in size. Because of this, the government has not made any plan to launch a ₹50 coin right now.
A Coin Is Not Made Just by Asking
The government said that before making a new coin, many things are checked. They check if people will use it and if it will help in daily use. Only then, a new coin is made.

What Was in the Petition?
The petition said that many notes have signs or marks that help blind people know their value. But the ₹50 note does not have any such mark. That is why the petitioner asked for a ₹50 coin, so blind people can use it easily.
RBI’s MANI App Helps Blind People
The government said that RBI has made a mobile app called MANI. This app helps blind people know the value of a note. The app speaks the amount when the note is scanned. So, the government said there is no need to bring a ₹50 coin right now..
