IRCTC Online Booking Rules Revised, Big relief for train passengers

IRCTC Ticket Booking: Big news for train passengers. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made considerable progress in enhancing the security, speed, and ease of online ticket booking. They have effectively reduced fake profiles and the unpredictability of agents, offering relief to authentic travelers for both instant and advance bookings. In 2025, IRCTC blocked 30.3 million suspicious user IDs and re-verified 48.6 million. Additionally, 12,819 dubious email domains were also blocked. A notable change is the removal of the captcha during login.

The user interface on the IRCTC website, www.irctc.co.in, and the IRCTC Rail Connect app has undergone a complete overhaul for simplicity. Captchas for login have been eliminated, menus have been streamlined, and forms have been made easier to fill out. Train listings are now organized by departure time, and a filter display option has been introduced.

This has significantly sped up and simplified the booking process. The most substantial change pertains to Tatkal and advance reservation bookings. Now, only users verified by Aadhaar can book Tatkal tickets, and advance ticket bookings on the first day are also restricted to Aadhaar-verified users.

This has nearly eradicated the issue of fake accounts and agents pre-booking tickets. As a result, genuine passengers are now able to secure more tickets. IRCTC has also implemented robust technical measures. They have reduced server load by installing a Content Delivery Network (CDN) and are thwarting automated attacks with advanced anti-bot technology. In 2025, there were 3.99 lakh suspicious PNR complaints reported on the National Cyber Crime Portal, with 376 complaints formally filed.

All these steps are part of IRCTC’s “passenger first” policy. With the removal of fake user IDs, Aadhaar verification, and an anti-bot system, booking Tatkal and advance tickets has become easier. This effort to bring smiles to the faces of genuine passengers is a major step towards making rail travel more transparent and fair.

Significant changes have also been made to booking Tatkal and Advance reservation periods. Now, only Aadhaar-verified users will be able to book Tatkal tickets. Furthermore, ticket booking on the first day of advance reservation will also be available only to Aadhaar-verified users. These changes have significantly reduced the problem of fake accounts and advance ticket booking by agents. The benefit of this is that genuine passengers are now receiving more tickets than before.

The company has also strengthened its systems technically. Installing a content delivery network has reduced server pressure. Advanced anti-bot technology is also preventing automated bookings and attacks. In 2025, 399,000 complaints related to suspicious PNRs were registered on the National Cyber Crime Portal, with 376 additional complaints.
