e-Voting App- Preparations for the Bihar Assembly Election have intensified. The Election Commission has started review work to conduct the elections. Earlier, a mobile app has been introduced, which allows voters to vote from home without going to voting centers. Bihar has become the first state in India to allow voters to vote through a mobile app. This is being seen as a potential new era in the democratic process.

Bihar State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad announced on Friday that e-voting will be held during the municipal elections of six municipal corporations – three in Patna, two each in Rohtas and East Champaran – on June 28, 2025. The project, which was started as a pilot project during the municipal elections in six councils, aims to make voting accessible to people who are unable to reach the voting centers. Along with providing advanced technology to ensure security and transparency.

Who will get this facility?

This facility started for Bihar elections is especially for those people who are unable to go to voting centers. This facility has been designed for senior citizens, disabled persons, pregnant women, migrant workers and others. According to Deepak Prasad, 10 thousand voters have registered for e-voting and 50 thousand voters will be able to exercise their franchise through e-voting without going to the centers.

How does e-voting system work?

The new e-voting service is based on technology designed to keep the democratic process secure and tamper-proof.
Blockchain technology ensures that votes are recorded and stored in a secure, unchangeable system.
Apart from login by face authentication and match, it also helps in verifying the identity of voters during voting.
Digital scanning and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) helps in accurate calculation of votes.
Audit trails similar to the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in EVMs help track votes.
EVMs offer physical security in addition to digital locks on strongrooms, even for traditional voting processes that run parallel.

How will this system prevent fraud?

Only two registered voters can log in from one mobile number.
Each vote will be verified with the voter ID details to ensure validity.
Prasad asserted that strong digital security measures are in place and migrant labourers, migrant voters, elderly, senior citizens, Divyang voters, pregnant women and seriously ill voters will be able to cast their votes using this process.

How to register for e-voting in Bihar?

The State Election Commission of Bihar has outlined a step by step process for voters wishing to vote through mobile.

Link the app to your mobile number registered in the voter list.
Once verified, you can vote in person through the official website of the State Election Commission or the e-SECBHR app on the polling day.
