Indian Railways has taken another important step towards providing better facilities to train passengers. The Railway Board has revised the time for preparing the first reservation charts for trains across the country. With this change, passengers will be able to know the status of their confirmed, waiting list, or RAC tickets much earlier.

The Railway Board took this decision keeping in mind the feedback received from passengers and the difficulties faced during long-distance journeys. This will be especially helpful for passengers who travel from remote areas to the station, as they will no longer be uncertain about their ticket status until the last minute.

New System for Morning and Afternoon Trains

According to the new guidelines, the first reservation chart for trains departing between 5 AM and 2 PM will now be prepared by 8 PM the previous day. Previously, this chart was prepared by 9 PM. This means passengers will now get information about their ticket status one hour earlier.

The Railway Board believes that morning trains have a higher number of passengers, and many people travel long distances to reach the station. Preparing the chart earlier will help them plan their journey better.

Changes for Afternoon and Night Trains

For trains running between 2 PM and 12 AM and between 12 AM and 5 AM the next day, the first reservation chart will now be prepared at least ten hours in advance. Previously, the chart was prepared eight hours in advance.

This change will allow passengers to know their ticket confirmation or waiting list status much earlier, enabling them to make timely decisions regarding alternative travel or other arrangements.

Railway Board Issues Instructions

Sanjay Manocha, Director Passenger Marketing, Second Railway Board, sent a letter regarding this to the Principal Chief Commercial Managers of all Zonal Railways and the Managing Director of the Centre for Railway Information Systems on December 16.  The letter instructs them to implement the new system on a priority basis.

The Board states that the objective of this change is to make the reservation system more transparent, timely, and passenger-friendly. Changes have been made before

This is not the first time the railways have changed the timing of the reservation chart. Earlier, in November and July, the Railway Board had issued guidelines to make this process automatic and time-bound. However, there has been no change in the timing of the second reservation chart, and it will continue as before.
