Indian Railways’ New Cleaning System: Traveling on Indian Railways is about to become shinier and cleaner than ever before. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced a revolutionary “on-board” cleaning system for long-distance trains, ensuring passengers no longer have to wait for the train to stop at a major station for cleaning; instead, professional teams will be deployed throughout the journey.
This rule will be strictly enforced not only on AC and sleeper coaches but also on general class coaches. In this article, we will explain in detail how this new “real-time cleaning” system will work and the significant benefits it will bring to passengers.
Now the wait for stations is over
Until now, under the “Clean Train Stations” scheme, Indian Railways only cleaned selected major stations. However, according to the new rule, trained professional teams will now be deployed on the moving train. These teams will clean the coaches every hour or as needed. This cleaning frequency will be determined based on peak and non-peak hours to ensure maximum cleanliness for passengers.
This system will be especially beneficial for passengers traveling long distances. It’s common to see garbage accumulating in coaches by morning after overnight travel. However, now, deployed teams will continuously remove debris and perform sweeping and mopping.
Monitoring from War Rooms
The Railway Minister clarified that special technology-based War Rooms will be established to oversee this new system. Real-time monitoring of the cleaning system will be provided from here, and direct feedback will be received from passengers.
What amenities will be available
This new railway infrastructure is not limited to cleaning floors. It will focus on everything within the coach to enhance the passenger experience. Under this new system, coaches, toilets, and basins will be regularly washed, along with dustbin emptying, water refills near the basins, and minor repairs.
Furthermore, teams will inspect safety equipment inside the coaches and prepare reports. This means that if your seat handle is loose or the toilet tap is broken, efforts will be made to repair it during the journey.
Cargo Hubs to be Built on Vacant Land
The Railways is preparing to elevate not only passenger amenities but also its freight business. Warehouses, processing units, and aggregation units will be developed on vacant railway land.
Furthermore, underutilized warehouses will be converted into Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals.
The process of converting sidings and private freight terminals into Gati Shakti Terminals has also been significantly simplified. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) has been given special powers to resolve disputes quickly, allowing business activities to continue uninterrupted.
