But often, misspellings, old dates of birth, or incorrect addresses stymie important tasks. The good news is that you no longer need to make the painstaking rounds of government offices. You can correct errors on your PAN card from the comfort of your home using the latest online portal from 2026.
Corrections will be made through these two official websites
The Income Tax Department has made the entire process digital and transparent for the convenience of PAN card holders. If there’s an error on your card, you can apply through the two main websites listed below. The first is NSDL (now Protean), which is the most widely used portal. The second is UTIITSL, through which you can apply for corrections and a new PAN. Using these portals not only saves you time but also avoids extra fees to agents and long queues.
PAN Card Correction Process
To change your name, address, or date of birth, you must follow a systematic process. Let’s learn how:
- First, visit the NSDL or UTIITSL website and select the ‘Changes/Correction in PAN Data’ option.
- A form will open, requiring you to enter your current PAN number, name, email address, and mobile number. Upon submission, you will receive a 15-digit unique token number. Keep this handy.
- Now, tick the box you want to correct. For example, if the name is incorrect, check the box next to the correct name and enter the correct name.
- Upload a scanned copy of your Aadhaar card, address proof, or date of birth certificate to prove your identity. In this era of Digital India, this process is even faster with your Aadhaar card through e-KYC.
- Pay the prescribed fee (approximately ₹106-₹110) online. You will then receive an Acknowledgement Slip, which will allow you to track your status in the future.
Required Documents
It is essential to have the correct documents to complete the correction process successfully. If you wish to make a name correction, you may need your Aadhaar card, passport, or gazette notification. A birth certificate or 10th-grade marksheet is considered the most reliable proof for correcting your date of birth (DOB).
A voter ID, an electricity bill, or a bank statement can be used for an address change. Additionally, you will need to upload a new passport-sized photo and a signature on white paper to ensure your photo and signature appear clear and accurate on the new card.
Legal action will be taken if you create fake documents
Never attempt to provide false or fraudulent information when making corrections to your PAN card. The government has enacted strict regulations to prevent fraud. According to UIDAI regulations, creating or using a fake Aadhaar card can result in a jail term of up to 3 years and a fine of up to ₹10,000.
