The Aadhaar card serves as the official identity document for every citizen of India. It is essential for various tasks, including banking, school admissions, and government services. The Aadhaar card contains a wealth of personal information, and there are instances where incorrect details may be entered or information may become outdated.

In such cases, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) provides opportunities for updates. According to UIDAI, several details on the Aadhaar card can be modified, although some information is immutable.

Details that can be updated include:

Address – UIDAI imposes no restrictions on updating the address on your Aadhaar card. This means you can change your address as often as necessary, which is particularly useful for individuals living in rental accommodations in urban areas. Any Indian citizen can update their Aadhaar card address multiple times.

Mobile Number – Including a mobile number on your Aadhaar card is crucial, as failing to do so may lead to various complications later. Similar to the address, you can update your mobile number as many times as needed, with no limits set by UIDAI. It is important to ensure that the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card is current to avoid any issues.

Name – UIDAI allows you to change the name on your Aadhaar card, but this can only be done twice.

Date of Birth – You can also modify the date of birth on your Aadhaar card, but this change is limited to two instances. If you have mistakenly entered an incorrect or incomplete date of birth, it can be rectified easily, but only twice.

Gender – It is important to accurately fill in the gender on your Aadhaar card, as this information cannot be updated once submitted. UIDAI assigns a unique 12-digit number to each individual, which is recorded on the Aadhaar card.
