Gratuity Rules– There is a good news for railway employees covered under NPS (Unified Pension Scheme). Now, employees covered under NPS (New Pension Scheme) who choose the option of UPS will get the benefit of gratuity on retirement just like OPS (Old Pension Scheme).
The previous date for opting for UPS is June 30. It has now been extended to September 30. East Central Railway Employees Union Additional General Secretary Ziauddin said that the Central Government has given the NPS employees the option of choosing the UPS provision while guaranteeing them pension. There is hesitation among the employees regarding the retirement benefits under UPS.
To clarify this, all the zonal unions including ECRKWU had requested I India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra. On the initiative of the Federation, the Personnel Department has issued a letter stating that the employees who opt for UPS will also get the benefit of gratuity on retirement like the Old Pension Scheme. The maximum amount of gratuity is fixed at Rs 25 lakh from January 1, 2025.
AIRF Zonal Secretary OP Sharma said that it is the policy of the Federation that in future, there will be a continuous struggle to bring about comprehensive reforms in the current provisions of UPS. It will be done in accordance with the provisions of OPS.
