Mahindra Freedom NU: Mahindra Auto will once again make news, but this time not about introducing a new vehicle. The group will launch its next-generation flexible vehicle platform on 15 August 2025 in Mumbai. By its interim code name “NFA” (New Flexible Architecture), the platform may define Mahindra’s offerings for the next few years.

What is Freedom NU?

In recent teasers, Mahindra has employed the term “Freedom NU” over and over. On its social media platforms, the firm tweeted, Freedom gets a NU face this Independence Day, affirming that the new platform will come out on Independence Day. It is also possible that Mahindra could take “Freedom NU” as the formal name for this new architecture.

Platform Intended for Multiple Power Options

Though the teaser was done by Mahindra Automotive, which is responsible for petrol and diesel cars, it also featured the Mahindra Electric Origin SUV logo and hashtags. This indicates that there will be support for a variety of powertrains like petrol, diesel, electric, and hybrid setups for the new architecture.

Cars in the Future on the Platform

Mahindra’s new flexible platform will form the base for a number of future cars. One of them is likely to be the next-generation Bolero, which was spotted testing recently. The other one is an all-new version of the Thar, likely to be called Thar Sport or Urban Thar, which is likely to utilize this architecture.

Electric Vehicles and BE Series

Besides the traditional fuel cars, the new platform will propel Mahindra’s future electric vehicles. These include models in the BE series, like the BE Rall-E, and the XUV3XO EV. This platform will enable Mahindra to jump into the expanding electric car market quickly.

Mahindra’s Hybrid Plans

Mahindra, too, seems to be gearing up to enter the hybrid car segment. It is said to not necessarily remain with mild hybrids, but adopt a plug-in hybrid system instead. This PHEV configuration could be powered purely on electricity and even charged through direct charging, providing both convenience and extended driving range.
