e-Zero FIR: The Government of India has recently launched a new service, e-Zero FIR, to strengthen cyber security and speed up the investigation of major cyber frauds. The system has currently been launched as a pilot project in Delhi, and in this, complaints of online fraud above ₹10 lakh will be automatically converted into an FIR.
With this initiative, the government aims to take immediate action against cyber criminals and save time in the investigation. Now, complaints of cyber financial fraud above ₹10 lakh will be automatically converted into an FIR. This facility will apply to complaints made on the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
This new system has been named e-Zero FIR, which has just been started as a pilot project in Delhi. Home Minister Amit Shah said that this will make investigation and action possible faster, and criminals can be caught. In the coming time, this system will be implemented in the whole country. The Home Minister wrote in his Twitter post that the Modi government is working fast towards a cyber-safe India. This new system will play an important role in cracking down on cyber criminals.
What is e-Zero FIR
An official said that complaints of fraud of more than ₹10 lakh registered on NCRP and 1930 will now automatically turn into zero FIR. This FIR will be registered at the e-crime police station of Delhi and then sent to the cyber police station of the concerned area. The complainant will have to go to the concerned cyber police station within three days and get the zero FIR converted into a regular FIR. In this process, I4C, Delhi Police’s e-FIR system, and NCRB Crime and Criminal Tracking Network have been linked together. This is an innovative step.
Legal basis and strong initiative
This initiative has been launched under Section 173 (1) and 1 (ii) of the Indian Civil Security Code. Delhi Police and I4C have jointly created this new system so that the money of the affected person can be recovered quickly and the criminals can be punished.
