Child Passport New Rules: A passport is required for studying abroad and for international travel. Currently, a passport has become an extremely important document. The government has recently made changes to the passport policy. These changes will benefit people in many ways. The central government is going to implement new passport rules from February 15, 2026. These rules will affect passports for people above 18 years of age as well as children under 18 years of age. Easier changes in the children’s passport process

According to the information, there may be changes in the rules related to passports for children, teenagers, and newborns under 18 years of age. Under the new rules, documents related to parental consent and identity can now be submitted online. This will make the passport application process faster and simpler. People will no longer need to visit the passport office repeatedly to submit documents. Essential information such as school ID or birth certificate can also be submitted digitally, allowing the application to be completed from home.

Passport rules for minors

In India, the validity of a passport for children under 18 years of age is 5 years. For this, it is necessary to submit the passports of both parents, the child’s birth certificate, and proof of residence. Filling out Annexure-H form is mandatory for parental consent. Upon turning 18, the child has to apply separately for an adult passport.

In case of a single parent, Annexure-C form has to be submitted along with documents related to the death or divorce of the other parent. For children born after October 1, 2023, the birth certificate will be considered as proof of age.

Online form and appointment mandatory

To obtain a passport for children under 18 years of age, filling out an online form and taking an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra is mandatory. For children under five years of age, only a photograph is required, and biometric verification is not needed. However, children of this age are required to be present at the passport service center with their parents.
