The Uttar Pradesh government has started the Chief Minister’s Swadeshi Gau Samvardhan Yojana to increase milk production and create rural jobs in the state. This scheme, run under the Nand Baba Dugdh Mission, aims to give financial help to cattle farmers and encourage them to buy improved indigenous breed cows from other states.

What is the Scheme?

Under this scheme, the government of Uttar Pradesh will provide a 40% subsidy on the total cost to each eligible person, or if lower, ₹80,000 for the purchase of two cows. The money will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary within one month of funding, through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The objective of this scheme is to increase milk production in rural areas and also increase the income of rural dairy farmers.

  • The total estimated cost of one unit is about ₹2 lakh.

Who Can Get the Benefit?

  1. Must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh
  2. Minimum age should be 18 years
  3. Must have space and a shed for keeping cows
  4. Should not own more than two improved or F1 breed cows
  5. Only Gir, Sahiwal, Haryana, or Tharparkar breed cows are allowed
  6. Must have 3-year veterinary insurance for all cows
  7. Cows must be purchased from outside Uttar Pradesh

Key Rules of the Scheme

If a beneficiary sells or transfers the cows within three years, the subsidy will be taken back by the District Executive Committee. This scheme is active in all districts of the state.
