Government Scheme: The central government is running numerous schemes for farmers, especially the Kisan Credit Card Scheme. The Kisan Credit Card Scheme is steadily gaining ground in the country, providing farmers with access to loans at affordable interest rates. In the 2025-26 budget, the government has announced further benefits for farmers by increasing the KCC loan limit under the MISS scheme. Previously, farmers could avail agricultural loans up to a maximum of ₹3 lakh, but now they will have access to short-term loans up to ₹5 lakh. Learn how much loan amount can be availed
Farmers receive loans for short-term agricultural needs through KCC. The government has increased this limit to ₹5 lakh. This loan is available at an interest rate of 7 percent, but the government also provides an interest subsidy to farmers. Farmers receive a 1.5 percent interest subsidy, which is paid directly to the bank by the government. If the farmer repays on time, they receive an additional 3 percent interest rebate. This brings the actual interest rate for eligible farmers to only 4 percent.
Who is Eligible for a Kisan Credit Card?
The KCC scheme is quite comprehensive and benefits individuals engaged in a wide range of agricultural activities. Farmers who cultivate, livestock farmers, licensed fishermen or boat owners, poultry farmers, sharecroppers and tenant farmers, and dairy farmers are eligible. Almost all types of small and marginal farmers can benefit from this scheme.
