The EPFO has now clarified that this deadline will not be extended further. The entire PF system will come to a halt
After the Aadhaar and UAN linking deadline expires, the first and most significant impact will be on ECR (Electronic Challan cum Return) filing. ECR is a digital document in which employers send detailed information about their employees’ contributions and payments to the EPFO every month.
If Aadhaar and UAN are not linked, the ECR file cannot be submitted. This could have a devastating impact on the employer’s entire PF system. The EPFO had issued repeated warnings and extended the deadline, but now it has taken a firm stance, stating that sufficient opportunity has been given, and with the deadline now over, hopes of relief are virtually over. Northeastern States
Employers operating in the Northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura, where linking rates are often low, need to be particularly vigilant.
Special Industries
In addition, beedi manufacturing, the building and construction material industry, and plantation industries such as tea, coffee, pepper, cardamom, jute, and rubber will also be directly affected. Employees working in these sectors should complete linking immediately.
Quick Online Process for Aadhaar-UAN Linking
Now the most important thing: If, for some reason, your Aadhaar hasn’t yet been linked to your UAN, it can be done instantly online. The process is simple and quick:
First, log in to the EPFO Unified Portal.
Next, go to the Manage section and select the KYC option.
Select Aadhaar, enter your Aadhaar number, and press the Save button.
The EPFO verifies your Aadhaar data with the UIDAI. Once verified, your PF account is secured.

How to Check Your Linking Status
To check the current status of your Aadhaar-UAN linking, log in to the Member Seva Portal and open the KYC section. If your Aadhaar appears in the list of Verified Documents, everything is fine. If it is not visible or is showing pending, then do not delay at all; otherwise, many PF-related tasks, such as withdrawal or transfer of money, may stop forever.
