EPF Update- The government told Parliament that every second pensioner under the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS-95) run by EPFO gets a monthly pension of less than Rs 1,500. This information was given by Minister of State for Labor and Employment Shobha Karandlaje. She shared the data.
These people get pension of more than 6000
Data up to March 31, 2025 shared by Minister of State for Labor and Employment Shobha Karandlaje also revealed that out of 81,48,490 pensioners under the EPS scheme, only 0.65 percent i.e. 53,541 pensioners get a monthly pension of more than six thousand rupees.
The minister told the House that the number of pensioners receiving monthly pension less than Rs 1,500 was 49,15,416. Thus, almost every second person or more than half of the pensioners were getting monthly pension less than Rs 1,500.
80,94,949 get pension of less than 6000 rupees
The number of pensioners receiving monthly pension of less than Rs 4,000 was 78,69,560. The number of pensioners receiving pension of less than Rs 6,000 per month was 80,94,949. The minister also informed that the total amount distributed under the pension scheme increased from Rs 22,112.83 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 23,027.93 crore in 2023-24. It is worth noting that the trade unions have demanded to increase the minimum monthly pension to Rs 9,000 under EPS-95. At present, the minimum monthly pension is Rs 1,000.
Will the pension under EPFO increase?
For a long time, a question has been going on whether the government will take any steps regarding the minimum pension for employees working in the private sector. Recently, there was a discussion that it will be increased to a minimum of Rs 7500. Currently, the minimum pension amount is only Rs 1000.
