Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved a 3 percent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees and dearness relief (DR) for pensioners during Diwali 2025. This decision has not only brought smiles to the faces of thousands of state government employees and pensioners, but will also strengthen their financial position during the festive season

Know the news in detail

According to information released by the Chief Minister’s Office, this increase will be effective July 1, 2025. It will be paid in November 2025, along with the October salary. This decision applies to state government employees, as well as employees and pensioners working in local bodies, public sector undertakings, and state-funded institutions. This will significantly increase employees’ salaries and make it easier to meet festive expenses. The dearness allowance received by employees depends on their basic salary. For example, if an employee’s basic salary is ₹60,000, they previously received ₹33,000 in dearness allowance at the rate of 55% DA.

Increase in allowance

Now, after the new increase, this allowance will increase to ₹34,800 at the rate of 58% DA, meaning their salary will increase by ₹1,800 per month. Not only Uttarakhand, many other states in the country have also given relief to their employees before Diwali. In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath increased the dearness allowance of state employees from 55% to 58% on October 17. The Odisha government also increased the DA by 3%, while the Karnataka government increased the dearness allowance of its employees by 2% to 14.25%. Apart from this, states like Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh also announced an increase in DA for their employees.

This festive season, the increased dearness allowance will not only help improve the financial situation of employees and pensioners, but will also increase cash flow in the state’s economy. The increased DA will boost consumer demand, which will revive markets and accelerate economic activity. This decision by the Uttarakhand government will thus prove to be a major economic gift for employees and pensioners before Diwali, playing a vital role in improving their standard of living and providing relief from festive expenses.
