da hike

There is good news for lakhs of government employees and pensioners in Kerala. Before Onam, state employees and pensioners will get two big gifts. On one side, the Central Government has decided to release the salary and pension of August 2025 earlier than the scheduled time for its employees and pensioners in Kerala because of the Onam festival. On the other side, the Pinarayi Vijayan government has approved another installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees and teachers, and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners.

Recently, the Kerala government approved this new installment of DA and DR. On Saturday, Finance Minister KN Balagopal said that the revised amount will be given from the salary and pension due on September 1. Employees under the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and Medical Services will also get this benefit. This decision will put an extra burden of ₹2000 crore every year on the state.

Central Government to Release August Salary and Pension Early

Today, on Monday, the Central Government will release the salary and pension of August. According to the Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Finance on 22 August 2025, the salary and pension for the month of August will be released to employees and pensioners of Kerala on 25 August (Monday). The wages of Central Industrial Employees will also be given in advance on the same day. This will be treated as an advance payment, and necessary adjustments will be made after calculating the full salary, wages, or pension for the month. If there is any difference, it will be adjusted in the August 2025 salary, wages, or pension.

Onam is the main festival of South India. This year, Onam will be celebrated on 4 and 5 September 2025. It is a very important and special festival in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Onam is celebrated in the first month of the Malayalam calendar, called Chingam. In Malayalam, it is also known as Thiruvonam. It is believed that on this day Lord Vishnu took the form of Vaman, and the demon king Mahabali came to earth from the netherworld.
